Available Supply Lists are listed alphabetically. Click on the Link to go to the supply list on this page. If yours is not listed, please pick one up at the shop or call to have one mailed to you at least two weeks prior to the start date. Registered students receive a class discount on all fabric, books, patterns, and notions and supplies are available through The Artful Quilter. We respect designers copyrights, and if a required book or pattern is listed, each student must have a copy.  Please try to come to class on time and with all your necessary supplies. Pre-cutting is sometimes required to optimize class time.

Machine Quilting Basics
 
Supplies:
 
Sewing machine in good working order with: straight stitch throat plate ( if you have one), feed dog cover if feed dogs do not lower, Owner’s Manual for your machine, and sewing table or extension table (this usually slides onto your machine) . Please ask for clarification of any of these terms.
 
Walking foot, and darning or free motion foot or “Big Foot” 
Universal style machine needles - size 80/12
Monofilament thread – fine polyester
Marking pencils- gray and silver
Cotton thread- good quality in 2 contrasting colors
Basic sewing supplies: scissors, seam ripper, pins, pin cushion, etc.
#1 Nickel plated safety pins
Five 14” squares of muslin
One 12” pieced block or printed block for practice in second session

This is an Artful Quilter Original Exclusive Pattern
 
Fabrics:
½ yards of 3 to 4 black on black tonal fabric for dark background or ½ yards of 3 to 4 light tone on tone fabric for light background – the blocks will float on the background.
 
12 (minimum) fat quarters or ¼ yards of small to medium scale prints – the prints can be a mix of multicolor prints and tonal prints that read solid
You can also use leftover fabric strips from other projects.  Refer to the cutting instructions below for the size strips for the blocks.
 
1 ¾ yds. Background fabric for setting triangles and outer borders
 
Sewing machine in good working order.
Neutral thread for piecing
Rotary cutter, mat, small ruler with 60 degree marking
1/4” foot (if you have one)

Medium-sized cutting mat or Olfa rotating cutting mat (12x 12 or larger) - preferred
Sewing machine, in good working order
Basic sewing supplies – seam ripper, thread clips or small scissors, sewing machine needles
Neutral thread to blend with fabrics
 
Fabric:
 
Use similar value fabrics to contrast with darker “band” of fabric that runs throughout. This design is perfect for larger scale fabrics and fabric collections that coordinate. It is best to avoid using solid-looking fabrics
            6 – FQ’s or ¼ yards coordinating fabrics
            4 – ½ yards coordinating fabrics
            2 ¼ yards – darker contrasting fabric for “band” throughout quilt and for 2nd inner Border:
1/3 to 3/8 yard of fabric for inner border (should be different from all blocks around outside edge of quilt – could be same as one of 6 FQ’s above)
2 yards – outer border and binding
*5/8 yard – binding (if using fabric different from outer border fabric)
